Rode the red loop at Golden Hill on Sunday the 20th and was much wetter than expected, mostly on the downhill side of the road in the hardwood stands or the grassy connectors to the road.
I totally forgot that it was a work day there until we were having lunch at Coolings. What did you work on? _________________ The year of 6 Oh

| Rode Golden Hill yesterday (7/2). Overall it was dry, but there were some mudholes. There probably were more mudholes on the blue trail, but the red trail had the bigger mudspots.

| I also was on the Golden Hill trails yesterday, July 3rd and was surprised by the mud holes. I have family that live at the bottom of the hill and found out that on Thursday of this past week they got about 2" of rain, which may explain the mud holes.

| Does anyone ride here anymore? Actually I rode at Golden Hill today for the first time this year. The red loop is in good shape for the most part a couple of sticky areas but nothing like last year. As for the blue loop, lets just say bring your GPS. There are a lot of trees down on the the lower section and I actually got lost for a while on the climb back up because the markers suddenly disappeared. Not only was the blue loop a bit sketchy due to a lack of markers but there was some erosion along this section as well. If you are planning to ride there soon I would suggest sticking to the red loop.

| I rode the red loop today. It is dry, buy not dusty like some of McCarty Hill. The south side of the road was in fantastic shape and tons of fun. Be careful on the north side of the road on the easternmost section- just past the 2nd trailhead. That section of the trail (just a short part - 500 feet) has been overgrown by thorny plants. My arms and legs are full of little cuts. On the otherhand, the fruit yielded by those thorny plants was delicious!

Was out at Golden Hill Friday, Sept 1. Trails were in good shape. Maybe 1 or 2 mucky sections. Rode the red and blue loop. This was my first time riding there.
We came across a section labeled "Whammy" with 2 black diamonds. I am assuming there is crazy stuff that way so I avoided it. I am still trying to master my skills on the trails enough to build my riding foundation where i am comfortable enough with my abilities.
I loved the look of the trail upon entering the red loop on the left of the road; with all of the bare trees with greenery on the tree tops. it looked so cool!! Cant wait to get back out there!

Great Photo! That section is beutiful. And good to see Ol Red (your bike) back on the trail.
Golden is some of the twistiest, fastest trails around...a good time indeed. I always seem to bash my shoulders in there because of all the narrow sections.
Wish it wasn't so far away. But if it rains anymore this week, that may be the wednesday night ride a few of us do. This place gets minimal use, and drains well. _________________ 2008 Asheville MVP. J2DB. Ride Matador Fiore Ride! El Nino! Chunky Monkey!

Nice pic but I'm still more awestruck at the fact that your bike fell off a bike rack on 219 and there it is back in the woods red tires a rollin. _________________ The year of 6 Oh

You know that the key to the recovery and return of that bike was that the dealer sticker was on the bike and that the dealer has a credible database of customer info. Amysue was smart in not taking off the dealer sticker.
If anyone has a bike that they need to register, usually the local police department can issue a registration, free of charge. That would help in recovery. _________________ Respect your local Woodland Spirits

OK.. a few of us decided to ride Golden today (Saturday) after i got out of work this afternoon. It rode great and we had a blast again! I think we encountered only one mud spot. I want to thank Al for telling me about this trail a few months back.. it's a long drive from North Tonawanda, but a great place to ride for someone of my skill level.
I also have to say that I love riding down the dirt road that splits the red loop in two.. I was hauling *boo-tay* down that road!! I think I hit 43.3MPH! I didn't even realize until i took a peek down at my bike brain -- "WOAH, I had better slow down a bit"
Anyways.. Golden is in good shape as of today, Saturday afternoon, in case anyone was curious.
Over and out.. _________________ Find what you love, and love what you find!

You rode already?!?!?!!
Golden has a way of being good early doesnt it? Unlike HC or SB.
Man, what the hell am I doing here at work?
I just know after this weekend of crappy weather, we will be taking a step backwards, and waiting for things to get better.
Nice work Jack, Bert, Joe and Dana! Its good to know we already have some of you guys working hard to get things ready already. _________________ 2008 Asheville MVP. J2DB. Ride Matador Fiore Ride! El Nino! Chunky Monkey!

Catt. County trails are always decent shape soon after snow melt. I can’t quite figure it out, but they actually seem better immediately after snow melt than later in the spring. I’m definitely very jealous too!
The geology and soils of the trails in Catt. Co. is very different from what you get in Erie Co. At Hunters and Sprague Brook, there is much more clay in the soil. Once those soil set up, they are bullet proof and shed water great. But until they set up after the spring drying period, they are very unstable. Plus they destroy bearings and make your bike 60 pounds. That’s why they need to harded up before we can get out on them.
So far this spring, it’s been great drying weather. Hopefully the rain and snow forcast over the next week is pretty light and we can get back to drying conditions again fast.
In the meantime, get out and enjoy things down in E-ville.
And Jack – I added you to the list of people who can rate the trail conditions. Feel free to update as often as possible. None of those other guys ever posts at the lounge. Oh yeah. Bert just signed up, too.
We are still looking for others who are willing to do the updating. If you are interested, let me know.
