Well, there are lots more of these huge rock formations along that way. This is good for two reasons: (1) It may make for an interesting ride and (2) this is a huge chance for folks aching for technical features (drops, etc.) to work them into a new trail. There are all kinds of natural features that ooze potential, at least to my untrained eye.

The most active trail builders in WNYMBA don't really have the knowledge and skill to route/design/build such natural feature challenges. But if we get someone who does have these skills, and is willing to work through the process, this could be a great opportunity.

That's what I'm talking about. That area always looked real good for technical features and rock drops to me as well, but I've never had a chance to really scout any lines. I will have to check it out at the fest, and I would definitely make another trip up if you want help planning lines. I could probably round up a few other pburgh people that also have experience with this sort of thing to help out.

I would like to help out as well. My only problem is my work schedule is the opposite of everyone else so getting together is always hard. Sundays are good for me along with weeknights. A week+ advance notice is always a help too.

3-6 consecutive 18"-36" drops on a slight downhill would be a ton of fun for our area. Of course I would like to see better stuff than that built but I don't want to see anyone get hurt really bad or die.

Take a look around when you have a chance. You can see the rocks in this aerial:

The blowdown (not shown) is in the upper right of the photo. The road is the road to Little Rock City. That bend in the road the top of the second of two small climbs on that road (quartermile after the Rim Trail trailhead).

You can't see it on the photo (because it's singletrack) but the white trail goes along the bottom of this photo, drops into the saddle on the right, and then drops steeply into the blowdown. That should give you some bearigs. The reroute would go from the Billygoat boulders over to the whilte trail.

Go take a look and come up with some idea.

Trails were 99.5 % dry today. There was NO rain whatsoever on Saturday night, not even a sprinkle !!!

Excellent trail work done all over the place.

Big shout out to whomever is responsible.

The blow down is pretty wild. I figured it was some kind of mini tornado.

AGAIN, THANKS FOR ALL THE TRAIL WORK ....AMAZING !!!!

Scorched Earth!

& That's an understatement. No one picture does this justice, but these were taken just below the CCC camp looking up the hollow.

Wow!!

Indeed. More riding for all. I can't wait for my vacation next week, long 4+ hour rides will bathe daily.

I wasn't able to go to the Fest this weekend, but I was able to ride all 3 days.. just couldn't spend the night. It was my first time riding out there other than riding the race loop on National Trails Day. I am going to have to find a way to get out to EVL more often... even though its almost twice as far as SB. Friday and Saturday I rode part of the race loop, merlin, and rain trail. However on Sunday I took a different route...

I have a couple quick questions about my ride Sunday:

- What is the trail just West of FLT on the south side of Mutton Hollow (near Tower)? I started on this and then took the first right looped around and eventually crossed over mutton hollow near spruce lake.
- Why aren't any of these trails over in that area labelled on the map?
- Does anyone ride growler and connector? They seemed somewhat overgrown. I am guessing it is because it is a ridiculously tough and long climb without any switchbacks? Porcupine and yukons lunch were great trails, but once I got to connector and growler, I had to hop of my SS and hike back to the CCC rode.

FYI... you didn't need to spend the night to be a part of the festival... several people don't stay and camp - although it is one of the best parts of the Fest for many. Taking part in the group rides would have yielded some great trail advice from the ride leaders.

The newest map has almost every trail on it...

The connector from KC's trail to the FLT is not on the map. It is a recent trail. The map is from 2006. It is always being updated on my computer and we will reprint this winter. KC's trail is not labeled because it was not named in 2006. Other new trails are Rocky's run and the actual location of Eagle. We hope to get Mesa in this fall, although lots of Sprague Maintenance is needed and also a go-around for the tornado. But it would be good to get a start on Mesa so it can go on the map. Eagle shows the folly of putting the "planned route" on the map.

Growler and Connector don't get ridden pretty much. They are from before we started building singletrack (yes, there used to be no singletrack in E-ville except for the white trail!). This has been a warm and wet summer so the vegetation has gone into overkill (semi-literally when it comes to the prickers - I bet they were bad on Growler)
