I was bored of the Matte Purple Paint job on the on my Sanction, so I decided to do a custom paint job on it.
I got it glass beaded first at a place called B&W Heat Treating on Kenmore Ave.
My buddy has a small paint station in his garage so I primed it and sprayed it there.
Here is the original matte purple paint job:
Here is the Black and Yellow custom paint job I did myself:

Very nice job dmarsh. I clear coated my OLD Vitus 979 a while back, turned out real nice, but not as nice as your whip did.
Funny you should post this, I am currently looking into clear coating a Felt Six Carbon that i'm buying from chrismicheals. Ive been doing a ton of research through some car forums and found a lot of good info on how to get the carbon prepped and painted with a clear coat(s). Only thing that is holding me up is the proper cure time (3-6 months) before a ton of chemicals, i.e. lubes and cleaners can come in contact with it - still reading into it. The Baked on paint that comes on most bikes and cars holds up to a lot more abuse, and it'll take a bit more for the paint to chip, so the curing time is a big deal if you want your new paint job to stay looking fly for a while.
Let us know how your paint holds up, i'm sure anyone with a beat up frame that they hate to see show its age has pondered the idea of giving it a new skin.
An FYI for those interested in repainting/clear coating a Carbon frame, or anything carbon for that matter; I was able to get a real good idea of the process here :

dmarsh- If you haven't already- GET A CHAINSTAY PROTECTOR ON THAT THING! Sweet color choices btw
Has anyone else tried their hand at a repaint? _________________ Singletrack Solitude

I put the fuzzy side of velcro around the chain stay and on the bottom of the seat stay.
I took this right after putting it back together.

Im thinking I rode it too soon after getting it painted or didnt put enough clear coat on it.
I think I will have it powdercoated this winter professionally. I am thinking a matte Black and Gold to match the Saint colors.

Do you know of anyone to do the powdercoating? I want to get my Road frame painted. Ive got to believe a shop that does mortar cycles can handle a bicycle _________________ Singletrack Solitude

Yea I know I should have waited longer. I couldnt have picked a more terrible time to paint it.
My brother has a friend that has a custom powder coating company. I'm not sure of the name but I can find out if you want.

There is a place on Seneca St. in East Aurora/Elma that does powder coating. They have done a few frames for my friend. I am going riding with him later today, I will try to remember to ask.
I think they charge $150 to strip and PC the frame, pretty good price.

A good automotive urethane with a hardener will be much better than powder coating. The set up times and full hardness will be only a day or 2. Plus, the over all finish will be much more billiant and smoother than powder coating.
Try an automotive body shop. I can't believe they will charge that much other than the paint.

Yeah I was real happy with it how it came out. But after riding it DH a lot, it just is not holding up. I think I forgot to put hardener in the paint and it chips real easy. Especially when my knee pads hit it. I am going to try and get it redone this winter.
