I'll bet that it's a river right now! DAMN RAIN! It's all the emissions that spew out of those big pick up trucks hauling horse trailers around causing disruptive weather patterns!

patterson is definitely less stream-like as of late yesterday afternoon. the snake is especially slick both going up and down the first hill. ridge was pretty ridable.

patterson is really wet in spots. snowsnake is still as slick as snot in places. i spun out for lack of traction on the first climb.
Mountain Bike Trail Description
Description:

Allegany State Park Trails are some of the most beautiful places around. It has about 100 square miles of very hilly forested terrain, plus, it is located adjacent to the Allegheny National Forest, which actually dwarfs the state park in comparison. Both have really nice riding.

WNYMBA and mountain bikers in general should be very thankful to park management which has been a strong supporter of bikes in not only this park, but in the whole state park system itself. This isn't taken for granted, as WNYMBA puts in a lot of trail maintenance man-hours in at this park.

This is not to say all the trails are open in this park. In fact, only the ski trails are open to bikes; the hiking trails and snowmobile trails are closed to bikes.  Starting in 2002, the park is developing a new trails master plan. WNYMBA has a seat on the advisory committee and will be lobbying for singletrack access in this park, either on existing trails or on new trails.

The ski trails can be accessed from either the summit trail head south of Salamanca on ASP1, or from the Bova Ski Hill trail head on the dirt road past Camp Allegheny. These trails offer long climbs and descents, sweeping vistas, and high speeds. From a purely rational point of view, these trails would sound kind of boring since they are wide enough to drive a truck down (though not two-track in appearance). This is the site of WNYMBA’s annual Raccoon Rally cross-country race, which draws over 500 racers.

Directions: From Buffalo, head south on 219 till you get to I-86. Don't get on, just go to the top of the hill to the trailhead instead.
