Take a trip down to Seven Springs, PA. It is also about 5 hours away from WNY. They have a downhill bike park with a variety of trails ranging from natural rocky DH to groomed flowy and jumpy. The terrain is not too difficult so it's a good place to learn at.

Plattekill is a great place to ride as well, but IMO less beginner friendly than 7 Springs.

Plattekill Mountain in Roxbury, NY is the closest place that has DH racing, it is just under 5 hours away.

There are 2-3 courses/tracks for each race event. A pro/expert track and a sport/beginner track. The sport/beginner sometimes has splits with more technical sections for sport racers. The beginner tracks are very easy and fast, your bike is more than capable to handle the track. If you decide to make the trip out there I would consider getting a set of DH specific tires, you will enjoy riding a lot more with the right tires.

2011 Race dates:

May 22 UCI points race, Pro GRT series race. Lots of big names at this race, last year Trek World Racing was there.

July 3 Independence day race

September 4 Labor day race

October 9 Columbus day race

Plattekill will be open the Friday before each race for freeriding and practice :D

Any other questions let me know, I have been riding and racing at Plattekill since 2001.

One more race will be added but the dat is not set yet.

So I just started mountain biking just over a year and a half ago and upgraded to a full suspension all mountain bike halfway through last year. Although I enjoy cross country riding, I am more interested in free ride/all mountain riding and am looking for a beginner style race i could enter. I am not looking to travel to Colorado or something for a expert level downhill race that myself or my bike cant handle, but I would like to get into a race that has moderate downhill with smaller drops any jumps, anyone have any suggestions????

Bike Stats:
GT Force 3.0
Fox Float RLC 140mm
Fox RP23 Rear shock
XT Crank
XT Rear Der
Sun Rhyno Lite Rims
Everything else is stock.

Ride it, Break it, Fix it, Ride it again!!

Our insurance company has "strongly suggested" that we tell you that Mountain Biking can be dangerous. If you're visiting this site it's very likely that you're already aware that if you insist on having a good time by riding your mountain bike, eventually you will almost certainly fall down and collect any number of boo-boos, dings and injuries, serious or otherwise, but we have to tell you anyway.

Mountain Biking is a potentially hazardous activity carrying a significant risk of bodily injury and even death. Mountain biking should only be undertaken if you have a complete awareness of these risks. You can reduce the level of risk by wearing a helmet and by riding within your own skill level.
