Sprague Brook Conditions
Nice to finally meet some of you.
See you next wednesday! Unless I see you first on Sat or Sun!
2008 Asheville MVP. J2DB. Ride Matador Fiore Ride! El Nino! ONE GEAR TO RULE THEM ALL™
The east side, in great contrast was great. 99% of the time the drainage was working well, with only the occasional spot with no drainage, but those were only a few feet in length.
If the rains aren't too hard with the front coming through tonight and there's riding Wednesday before the meeting, I would strongly suggest just riding on the east side. Do it out and back a couple of times.
As for technique in knocking down the berms, you did a great job. The key thing I was concerned about was that some might just cut a small channel hoping the water would drain out. That works well until the first bike comes through and blocks out the small channel. Don't laugh, I've seen it done before. The way to take care of the berms is to pull it away the whole length of the blockage and then some.
Eventually, what you want is to be fully down to the mineral soil. As one may notice, anywhere where there was a bench cut (i.e. into the mineral soil) the trails were extra great. Basically, the goals should be to see none of the black soil that you see now in most of the piney sections. That all needs to be removed so that you can see the light brown mineral soil. That will happen with use, but it is better to remove as much as you can manually or else the organic material will end up as a new berm.
Ben and I were out putting up trail signs on Tuesday afternoon. We knocked down some of the berms (Ben showed me how to do it, so if it's not right... blame him) on the side that starts clockwise. Hopefully this rain is draining better in those areas. We only made it about 1/4 way around so thier is much more to do.
I thought you were to busy but looks like your back so might as well let you handle this.
Find what you love, and love what you find!

The trails are very wet and with the rain predicted tomorrow I do not think they will be in good shape until we get several days of nice weather. Just a heads up for those who might have been thinking of a Wednesday night ride... I would recomend riding on the road.

Scored Nada! Well I did win a vest from the Maverick Raffle. It was a large so I gave it to a large person.
