First, the 5-cent summary of what this is all about.

  • Bell Helmets is giving away $33K to build a new trail.
  • WNYMBA submitted a killer application and now we are one of four east coast finalists!
  • If we win, Holiday Valley will kick in some funds to make this 2-mile trail even better.  The trail will always be open to the public to ride for free.
  • WNYMBA put together a video to describe the project and why everyone should vote for us!
  • The trail is a 2-mile downhill flow trail from Spruce Lake to the ski lodge.  It will be full of berms, rollers, switchbacks and other fun stuff, that takes machines and money to build.
  • This trail will kick start a much larger trail system at Holiday Valley.  It's not just about this 2-mile trail.
  • The winner is determined by popular vote alone!

Here's how the voting works:

Bell is doing the voting in three stages.  First was the West Coast, then the central states.

Finally, there is voting for the East Coast on May 5 - May 18 !  This is when you must vote.

You vote by going to bellhelmets.com/bellbuilt

You vote by e-mail address.  It's simple.  Here are the steps at the above website:

  • Select "Holiday Valley Trail"
  • Enter your email address
  • Enter the blurry verification code they use to keep out robots
  • Go to your inbox and open the confirmation email
  • Click the confirmation link

Note, if you don't get the confirmation link e-mail, check your spam or trash.  I voted for Santa Cruz Soquel Demonstration Forest Flow Trail in the west coast voting and found the confirmation e-mail in my spam.

In other words, enter your e-mail, then go to your e-mail and click the link.  Simple as pie.
You gotta do this.  More importantly, you have to have everyone you know and everyone they know do the same thing.  Please vote!  Last year, the vote was very close!

This is only a preview if we get the grant!  We won't get the grant unless you vote.  Voting starts May 5.  Only one East Coast winner.  Project with the most votes gets the whole thing.  Loser gets nothing.  Vote!!!

We had almost 100 people attend our Spring Kickoff Social Party at Tom's Bike Shop.

It was a fun format.  First, Tom fed us great food and beverages, and we just socialized.  Then we had a bunch of 5 minute talks about upcoming events.  We gave out over $500 in prizes to trivia questions.

It was a good time had by all.  Thanks to WNYMBA and Tom's Pro Bike Shop for hosting the event.  Also thanks to the Buffalo Outdoors Meetup and WNY Mountain Bike Meetup for helping out and providing the people.

You can check out photos of the event here.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Our insurance company has "strongly suggested" that we tell you that Mountain Biking can be dangerous. If you're visiting this site it's very likely that you're already aware that if you insist on having a good time by riding your mountain bike, eventually you will almost certainly fall down and collect any number of boo-boos, dings and injuries, serious or otherwise, but we have to tell you anyway.

Mountain Biking is a potentially hazardous activity carrying a significant risk of bodily injury and even death. Mountain biking should only be undertaken if you have a complete awareness of these risks. You can reduce the level of risk by wearing a helmet and by riding within your own skill level.
