Holiday Valley Timber Harvest Operations

Holiday Valley asks us to get the word out that  they will be performing some logging for the next several months and portions of the trails will be closed for the riders safety. The goal is to keep bike trails open as much as possible but we may need to close sections from time to time. They will put signs up in those location warning the riders. The goal is to be done by end of June. The good news correlary to this is they plan on converting one of the logging trails to singletrack once they are done, and this will add about a mile or so of new trail connecting to MB-1.  We thank Holiday Valley for being such a strong supporter of Mountain Biking.

National Trail Day 2017!!!

Big plans for National Trails Day (NTD) this year!  We will be holding our annual event celebrating NTD on May 27. We'll start with a trail day at Hunters Creek where our HC trail master Ben Clauss has a great day of trail work planned that may even  include some new trail to be constructed. Immediately following trail work we'll move to 42 North Brewery for a party to celebrate NTD, WNYMBA’s 25th anniversary and the 2017 launch of a great WNY MTB beer Creekside by 42N. This session IPA truly embodies the spirit of the trails, streams, and rivers of the 42 parallel. We'll have food, music, prizes, and fun to celebrate! 42N has generously agreed to donate $1 of every pint sold that day to the WNYMBA trail fund! So if you can't make the trail day, stop by the party anyway and celebrate with us. SO just to recap: National Trails Day Celebration May 27 2017   10:00a Trail workday at Hunter's Creek Park Centerline Rd lot  ...

2017 Swap And Sale

The 2017 Swap and Sale held on 2-Apr at the GOBNMC DIG Innovation Center was a great success for WNYMBA and the larger WNY biking community. Nearly 50 bikes were given a new lease on life.  Along with a small truck load of wheels, pedals, handlebars, racks, and almost every other part you could name. There was great food, great fun, and a wonderful sense of community. Many thanks to all who supported the club through sales, donations, and solidarity. We’ll have the financials for the next meeting, but early count puts us ahead of last year’s total. This all would not be possible without the help of supporters and member volunteers so thanks to all listed below, apologies to anyone I may have missed GoBike and GOBNMC for presenting the event and supporting WNYMBA and the larger WNY biking community.  Special thanks to Thea Hassan and Nate Hill! Our sponsoring local bike shops; Campus Wheel Works, Northstar Bikes, Ricks Cycle, and Tom’s...

Please report trail conditions

Please report trail conditions

As we put it on our maps, we have said a general rule of thumb of when to hit the trails is "Tax Time" (April 15), sometimes earlier, sometimes later.  As I type this, I hear the rain come down outside again.  Unfortunately, this year sounds like it may be a "sometimes later" year.  Right now, the Erie Co. parks aren't ready to go, and there are reports of very wet conditions in E-ville. Next week's forecast is looking better, but we will have to see.  In the meantime, please report conditions at our "Trails Dry?" reporting page.  Yes, right now, there are no recent posts and no posts from last year.  But that is because out website got hacked last May and the latest backup was from February or March.  So all the 2016 reports were lost.  And after May, it was so dry, there was no need to report. It's super important to let the trails dry in the spring before heading out.  Because of the way the soils are, way more damage can occur when ridde...

Board meeting Monday, February 20

Board meetings are where lots of boring stuff happens. We try to work out boring details about running the club, in order to present to the general membership during our regular meetings. They aren't a lot of fun, but since WNYMBA isn't a secret organization, any members can come to if they are looking for a snoozefest. Our next one is going to be Monday February 20 to talk about insurance, IMBA Chapter 2.0 program, plans for the beer release party, spring trail work schedule, and the season open meeting at Tom's.  Plus anything else of import. This one will be at Hamburg Brewring @ 7:00 on Nov. 15 (Monday) (WNYMBA isn't buying, just in case you wondered). If you like the nuts and bolts of running a nonprofit, see you there!

Our insurance company has "strongly suggested" that we tell you that Mountain Biking can be dangerous. If you're visiting this site it's very likely that you're already aware that if you insist on having a good time by riding your mountain bike, eventually you will almost certainly fall down and collect any number of boo-boos, dings and injuries, serious or otherwise, but we have to tell you anyway.

Mountain Biking is a potentially hazardous activity carrying a significant risk of bodily injury and even death. Mountain biking should only be undertaken if you have a complete awareness of these risks. You can reduce the level of risk by wearing a helmet and by riding within your own skill level.
